Renewa to deliver biofuel boiler to Varissuon Lämpö

Renewa will supply Varissuon Lämpö Oy with a 12 MW biomass heating plant, which will use wood as a primary fuel and peat as a back-up. The district heating plant will produce approx. 55,000 MWh of heat energy a year, providing over 80% of Varissuo district’s heating requirement.

Costing in total some EUR 5.5 million, the biofuel fired plant comprises the boiler itself plus a new chimney, building, fuel station, foundations and a vehicle-weighing scale. This figure also includes design, environmental and other costs. Renewa Oy was selected due to its most cost-efficient solution.

Varissuon Lämpö’s Board of Directors has since 2007 been considering its primary energy procurement options: buying energy from Turku Energia or acquiring its own biofuel boiler plant. According to the feasibility study conducted by an independent consultant, heat generated in the company’s own bioheating plant will be 15-20% cheaper.
